Improved access to prescription medications
RetailMeNot needed to conduct user research, validating designs in support of a new pharmacy-based experience for their prescription coupon site, RxSaver. The team created a low-fidelity concept to take into the field, gathering insights and feedback to inform the final solution. Following synthesis, we delivered full-fidelity designs and an implementation plan for development.

Aligning with the RxSaver team
Before getting started, we conducted stakeholder interviews and a kick-off workshop with the RxSaver team. During the workshop we created proto- personas to help us better understand RxSaver users.

Leveraging the team’s knowledge of their current users, we identified the goals, needs, fears, and challenges of consumers when searching for coupons and navigating the RxSaver experience.
Understanding user needs
Using the information gathered during kick-off and user research provided by the RMN team, we refined our personas and derived user scenarios that would prompt users to seek out pharmacy information. We then mapped each scenario, outlining design considerations based on user needs at each step.
Concepting with our clients
Using our hero scenarios as inspiration, we designed a concepting workshop to allow members of both teams to generate ideas together. We collected over 100 concept “seeds” that we then grew into high-level concepts. We then worked with the RxSaver team to continue to refine each concept, downselecting to a single concept to carry forward into user validation.
A unified approach to savings
Instead of creating a new sections of the site to house pharmacy information, we took the approach of integrating pharmacy information with the prescription drug coupons. Users searching by pharmacy or prescription medication would be provided with specific information on pharmacies in their area as well as prescription drug coupon information, increasing access to savings.
Validating with users
We developed an extensive research plan and discussion guide while working with the RxSaver team to develop criteria for selecting validation participants.

We then conducted nine in-personal validation sessions. During the sessions, we walked participants through our key flows while asking questions about their thought process, emotions, and expectations.
Moving our designs forward
During our sessions we documented participant feedback and behavioral observations. Synthesis of our observations resulted in users insights and tactical considerations for continued improvements. Our findings informed the next iteration of our screens as well as recommendations on future opportunities.
Helping patients become informed consumers
The team delivered design specs, reference prototypes, and an implementation plan for the new pharmacy and coupon integrated experience. Our designs support the RxSaver team in their mission to educate consumers on the availability of prescription drug coupons, making prescription medications more affordable.
